2019 Year in Review – A Look at Squire’s 2019 Accomplishments
Squire is ever-evolving, and always finding ways to stay at the forefront of the industry. From awards and mergers to leadership changes and national acknowledgement, Squire has had a successful year to say the least!
We kicked off the new year by growing our team of partners by three talented members, announcing that Amanda Barrett-Brough, Matt Geddes, and Kevin Johnson are officially partners at Squire.
“I look forward to working with our new partners in their new capacity,” said Bullock. “They are each experts in their fields and we are lucky to have them at Squire.”
Each year, The Daily Herald opens the polls to its readers to let them decide who, what, and where are the “best” in all of Utah Valley. Squire was proud to announce that we received, not just one, but four awards for 2019. Pulling in three 1st place awards and one 3rd place award Squire received:
- 1st Place Best Accountant
- 1st Place Best Tax Service
- 1st Place Best Customer Service – Professional Services
- 3rd Best Employer
We proudly landed a spot on Accounting Today’s list of best accounting firms to work for in the United States. This award is no small feat! This awards program is designed to identify, recognize and honor the best employers in the accounting profession, benefiting its economy, workforce and businesses. The list is made up of 100 firms.
In mid-August, INSIDE Public Accounting announced that Squire was one of the nation’s top 200 largest public accounting firms. Squire continues to successfully expand year over year. Awards like this really showcase the effort we put in to do so.
Placing ourselves in the top 200, Squire climbed 22 spots this year to No. 168 up from No. 190 in 2018. Its net revenue came in at $23.8 million. The annual rankings and accompanying analysis paint a comprehensive picture of the state of the profession.
With Squire’s talented female CEO, Jonyce Bullock, Squire is determined to lead the way in women’s equality in the workplace. We stepped up and joined The Women’s Leadership Institute’s (WLI) ElevateHER™ Challenge.
WLI has a mission to elevate the stature of women’s leadership in Utah in both business and in politics. WLI began the ElevateHER™ Challenge in May 2015. The Challenge encourages companies and organizations to focus on creating internal change in at least one of six areas:
- Increase the percentage of women in senior leadership positions.
- Increase the retention rate of women at all levels of your organization.
- Increase the number of women on your board of directors.
- Monitor pay by gender and close identified gaps.
- Establish a leadership development, mentoring and/or sponsorship programs for women.
- Recruit women to run for public office.
In 2019, Squire, along with 34 more companies and organizations, joined the ElevateHER™ Challenge, bringing the total involved to 229.
We know that we have a talented team here at Squire and our employees are constantly going above and behind to shine bright in the industry, so it was no surprise when one of our superstars, Megan Bronson – manager in the technology and business department at Squire – was named a 2019 Top 100 QuickBooks ProAdvisor by Insightful Accountant. We love seeing our employees continue to further their knowledge and leverage it to better serve their clients and grow their own business.
As mentioned, Squire works to provide growth and new opportunities for all its employees. Mid-October, we announced four of our tenured partners have been offered new leadership roles. Audit specialist Amanda Barrett-Brough and tax expert Brandon Allfrey have accepted the positions of Practice Area Leader over their respective areas of expertise for the entire firm. Also taking on new roles of leadership are Greg Hyde and Danny Barlow. Hyde will be Salt Lake City Tax Lead, reporting to Allfrey, and Barlow will be Salt Lake City Audit Lead, reporting to Barrett-Brough. We have already seen them thrive in these new positions, and we are excited to see where 2020 takes them!
Squire is lucky to have a progressive, driven and determined CEO. Jonyce Bullock was interviewed and featured in an article by the Daily Herald where she speaks to the challenges of being a working parent and the unique ways that Squire supports those employees. It’s no secret that these practices are the reason that Squire has been named multiple times by multiple organizations as one of the best companies to work for.
On November 6, Squire hosted an open house at their new downtown Salt Lake City office. The addition of this office allows us to have a broader reach and provide easier access to those around the valley.
Our team amazes us every day. Charlotte R. Clark was recognized by Association News, a quarterly newsletter for the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts, for being and outstanding member! Charlotte has been an active and involved member of NACVA since she received her designation as a CVA in 2001. She has especially enjoyed the training and mentoring relationships that she has been able to develop through NACVA.
Way to go, Charlotte!
We wrapped up 2019 on a wonderful note! Not only were we named one of the Accounting Today’s best accounting firms to work for in the nation, we were honored by Utah Business Magazine as one of the best companies to work for in Utah for the second year in a row. Company culture can make or break a company and we strive to create unique perks for our employees that make their time here at Squire even more rewarding.
We are thrilled to see what 2020 has to bring!
