As a Sales Tax Account Manager at Squire, you’ll play a vital role in helping businesses meet their sales and use tax.     We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated individual to join our team as a Sales Tax Account Manager at the Associate level.  In this role you will be responsible for assisting clients in managing and ensuring monthly sales tax compliance.  The ideal candidate should possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a desire to learn and grow within the field of sales tax advisory account management.  Responsibilities include managing sales tax filings, registrations, and various sales tax client support services.

     

    • Aid in the preparation of and filing of monthly sales tax returns accurately and timely.

    • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure accurate record keeping and reporting.

    About the Role:

    The Receptionist provides support and assistance to several employees and Partners who are also CPAs. Be the first impression to clients in person and on the phone in a professional and helpful manner while performing clerical tasks to support the firm’s daily operations. Work with highly sensitive information maintaining utmost confidentiality and can adapt to changing processes and procedures. To be successful as the Receptionist, the candidate should have a pleasant personality and an inviting demeanor. The ability to multitask is essential for this position.

    Responsibilities:  

    • Sit at the front desk reception area and greet visitors and clients. Obtain name and other pertinent information, notifying appropriate individuals of visitor’s arrival. Maintain the security of the front office.
    • Answering and transferring phone calls to employees; handling questions and complaints.
    • Deal with complex queries on the telephone, by email and in person.
    • Maintain company directory.
    • Oversee mail operations to include metering, sorting and facilitating delivery of mail to employees.
    • Assist in processing checks received and assist in preparing daily deposit.
    • New client setup
    • Assist with document retention process.
    • Answer questions from clients and team members and provide assistance.
    • Update restaurant options list with links to menu’s
    • Dust outdoor dropbox bi-weekly

    About the role:  

    As Sales Tax Advisor at Squire, you will work on the Sales Tax Advisory Team, in close collaboration with our Compliance Operations Team, to support our clients in meeting their state and local tax (SALT) obligations.   

    Key to success is your ability to partner with our clients in developing and executing a strategy for their SALT compliance and related process optimization.  

    Responsibilities:  

    Advisor to Clients 

    • Provide guidance on key regulations and general compliance framework. 
    • Conduct nexus studies to determine tax filing obligations 
    • Liaise with state or local governments in support of client objectives. 
    • Oversee compliance efforts to ensure taxability, calculations, reporting, registration, and filings are accurate and aligned with ever-changing tax regulations. 
    • Assist with sales tax audits, notices, and communications with tax authorities. 
    • Research and analyze state tax law changes and their impact on client compliance. 

    Sales Tax Software Implementation 

    • Oversee results of tax automation software implementation by Digital Transformation Consultants. 
    • Collaborate as needed with the Digital Transformation Consultants to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to tax software integrations, tax calculations, and to eliminate data discrepancies. 
    • Ensure proper tax nexus and jurisdictional rules are set up in compliance with company requirements and tax laws. 
    • Guide client in its product mapping and taxability decisions 
    • Serve as the primary strategic liaison between software vendors (e.g., Avalara, Sovos) and our Sales Tax Advisory Team to align our digital transformation strategy with the compliance needs of our clients. 
    • Guide clients on tax exemption certificate management. 

    Data Insights 

    • Review, analyze, and validate sales tax data to ensure accuracy for reporting and audit purposes. 
    • Assist client accounting and finance teams with reconciliation of tax liability accounts and tax determination software. 

    Internal Compliance Advisor 

    • Work closely with tax compliance teams to identify technical needs and optimize sales tax processes. 
    • Provide support for nexus studies, voluntary disclosure agreements and multi state sales tax research 

    Qualifications: 

     

    Education and Experience: 

    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. 
    • 4+ years of experience with sales tax compliance or advisory services. 
    • Familiarity with sales tax automation tools such as Avalara, Sovos, Vertex, or TaxJar. 

    Technical Skills: 

    • Strong understanding of tax software integrations with ERP and e-commerce systems. 
    • Proficiency in Excel and experience with data manipulation and reporting. 

    Soft Skills: 

    • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. 
    • Strong spoken and written communication skills to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. 
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment. 

    Preferred Qualifications: 

    • Experience managing multi-state nexus and sales tax compliance for e-commerce or retail businesses.
