Drop in US existing-home sales bigger than projected

Sales of existing homes in the US dropped 4.8% to a 5.31 million annual rate in August, the National Association of Realtors said. The median forecast of economists surveyed by Bloomberg had called for the sales rate to decline to 5.5 million.
