Rate increase by year-end possible, Fed’s Fischer says

The US economy might be strong enough for the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates by the end of the year, Fed Vice Chairman Stanley Fischer said Sunday at the annual meeting of the International Monetary Fund in Lima. Meanwhile, central bankers attending the IMF meeting from around the world are encouraging the Fed to increase its rate, some say just to end the uncertainty.
