IRS warns consumers about rising back-to-school tax scams
With the arrival of the back-to-school season, criminals are using a variety of telephone scams to demand money to pay nonexistent taxes, including a “federal student tax,” according to the Internal Revenue Service. “Although variations of the IRS impersonation scam continue year-round, they tend to peak when scammers find prime opportunities to strike,” Commissioner John Koskinen said.
