U.S. Home Equity Posts Biggest Gain in 60 Years, Fed Data Show

The value of owners' equity in U.S. homes jumped 7.3%, to $6.7 trillion, in the first quarter, the biggest increase in more than 60 years, according Federal Reserve data analyzed by Bloomberg News. Expressed as a proportion rather than dollar value, homeowner equity represented 41% of residential-property value, the most since 2008, when it reached 43%.
